Aroi Mak Mak (Very Delicious)! Our food editors dined at Soi Aroy and enjoyed fiery Tom Yum Goong and luscious soft pork cheek that melted in our mouths.

I'm delighted that, despite the COVID pandemic, I can continue to try different restaurants and eat authentic food without leaving Singapore. Soi Aroy, which already has amassed a cult following on Facebook, is one of the few authentic Thai restaurants in the area that serves outstanding Thai cuisine and is reasonably priced. Their staff are pretty friendly, and the ambience is intimate, with a fantastic selection of music. Who'd have guessed such a gem could be found in a gadget mall?
Our little Thai lunch escapade at Sim Lim's Soi Aroy … How did it turn out?
I was sceptical when my wife proposed lunch at a Thai restaurant in Sim Lim Square, but I was pleasantly surprised to find Soi Aroy, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Soi Aroy is a Thai restaurant chain in Singapore noted for its excellent Thai food and rich collagen soups. Sim Lim Square and Hougang are the locations of its two branches.

This welcoming establishment is excellent, and the food was delicious. I ordered their signature noodles, meat platter, a couple of appetisers, beverages, and desserts to split; Wah! It was authentic and delicious, and it made me feel like I was back in Bangkok!

Their premium Tom Yam soup was rich, creamy, and sour. These unique noodles and the delicious non-oily collagen soup with a considerable portion of toppings and chewy noodles deserve two thumbs up. The staff told me that the collagen broth takes 12 hours to prepare! The spice level is legit Thai style in terms of spiciness, so go for the “I WANT IT HOT” level if you are a chill lover.

Tried Soi Aroy's Pork rib soup, a perfect Thai ice tea, and of course, the mixed grilled platter which did not disappoint!
The Northern Thai Pork Rib Soup, which was highly recommended by the staff, was amazing. I couldn't believe how well the noodles picked up the taste of the soup. This increased the flavour of every mouthful! The accompanying pork ribs were likewise extremely tender. This is a delicious bowl of comfort food with flavours that hit the mark and were remarkably enjoyable.
Pros: Meat falling off the bone ribs in a rich authentic broth. We recommend the Northern Thai pork rib soup
Their Thai iced tea has a pleasant sweetness to it that I enjoy.

The mixed grilled platter was delicious: delicate pork skewers (Moo Ping), mildly aromatic lemongrass chicken, and pork belly melted in your mouth! The pairing with garlic chilli fish sauce and their special sauce is heavenly. My favourite was the grilled pork cheek. The smokey flavour from the torching and the fats almost melt in your mouth when they're warm! Mmmmm. Aroi-mak. Tender, juicy, and flavourful!
Pros: Quality Meats in the mixed grilled platter, tender on the inside and finished off with a torch. Recommended!

We tried the Thai KangKong with squid and Thai fish cakes. How did it fare in our taste test?
The Thai Kangkong with squid was another dish that we particularly appreciated. The crunchy, fresh vegetables are tossed in a garlicky spice dressing and topped with squid cooked to perfection. A must-have here!

Thai Fish Cakes are another popular item on their menu. They go well with the Thai sweet and spicy sauce.

Don't leave without trying the delicious crab meat fried rice and mango sticky rice! We loved it!
Because the food was so good, we decided to get crab-meat fried rice and mango sticky rice to go.
Overall, I had a fantastic time on my first visit and would return. The price was affordable, and the service was par excellence. The staff is friendly and helpful! I highly recommend this eatery for its attention to detail and food quality.
Pros: Generous chunks of crab meat in the fried rice with a delicious umami
Cons: Limited seating areas so try to be early and get ready to queue
What did our food editors think of Soi Aroy's unique take on Thai cuisine? Verdict: We rate it as one of Singapore's best Thai food at Sim Lim Square!
As a big fan of Thai food, I've had my fair share of substandard dishes here in Singapore, but several have been almost as amazing as what I can get in Thailand.
Soi Aroy is one such unexpected gem. They deserve all the attention they are getting and we say rightfully more!
Soi Aroy's Creamy Tom Yum has to be one of their best dishes. The herbs provided just the right amount of spice and fragrance. Even better, the soup does not contain MSG.
If you want some comfort food, there's also the Basil pork with rice, which comes with a large portion for the price. If you want some sides to go with your meal, get the mixed platter, including grilled pork skewers, grilled pork cheek, and lemongrass chicken, before finishing your meal with the famous mango sticky rice.
