What our food editor liked about this steamboat restaurant: Beauty in the Pot offers nutritious soup bases and premium beef

The steamboat from Beauty in the Pot is as genuine as they get. Their steamboat combines the essence of health and beauty in a pot, which will not only fuel your body but also ensure that your skin is healthier. You can choose from six healthy and nutritional soup bases and pair them with fresh ingredients prepared with the utmost expertise by Beauty in the Pot's team of chefs.

However, the steamboat ingredients here are substantially more expensive than those found in typical Singapore steamboat restaurants, as they offer premium ingredients such as US Wagyu beef, Angus prime ribs, and even a giant Boston lobster. But, if you ask us, they're worth every cent because they're so filling, delicious, and healthful all at once! Also, don't miss out on Beauty in the Pot's Signature Homemade Fish Tofu, which is only available there and it promises pure melt-in-your-mouth quality.

What our food editor liked about this steamboat restaurant: City Hotpot, a cheaper option with choices from 12 soup bases and 19 sauces

If you haven't heard of City Hot Pot, you haven't had a proper steamboat experience in Singapore. We really like the restaurant's single-pax and saliva-conscious friendliness, which means you can order a set hotpot just for yourself. There's no shame in ordering a 2-person portion for yourself. Of course, you may customise your dish by adding extra ingredients, as City Hot Pot is known for its extensive selection of hot pot add-ons. There are 12 soup bases, 19 sauces, and a plethora of fish, meat, and veggie options to choose from. What's even better is that the hotpot restaurant is set up like an open kitchen, with guests sitting in a circular ‘bar' while the chefs work within, serving hotpot ingredients straight from the kitchen.

What our food editor liked about this steamboat restaurant: King of Hotpot Steamboat with excellent soup bases

A guide to hotpots in Singapore would be incomplete without mentioning this popular hot pot franchise. In addition to its seven soup bases and traditional steamboat ingredients like fish balls, luncheon meat, stuffed bean curd, and more, Haidilao also serves seafood, styled dishes (flavoured tripe and crispy fried pork), vegetables, and new items like Arctic surf clams, tempura shrimp, and carrot-flavoured konjac noodles.

Because the service was so attentive, honest, and polite, the dining experience at Hai Di Lao was fantastic. They seemed really delighted to be of service to us. They were also very efficient and alert, emptying our plates, refilling our water, and checking to see if everything was okay. I'd definitely return with such excellent food and service. The only drawback is the huge lines. It's best to make a reservation for this famous steamboat restaurant ahead of time!

What our food editor liked about this steamboat restaurant: King’s Laksa Hotpot Steamboat has an irresistible Coconut Curry Soup

King’s Laksa Steamboat might have earned a reputation amongst locals.  It is just a short walk from Serangoon MRT station, which specialises in, well, laksa steamboat. The delectable coconut and curry soup is served alongside premium delicacies such as prawn paste chicken and sliced pork belly.

You can order finger food, noodles, meats, fish, and more. Classic Wholemeal Yellow and Laksa Noodles are available, as more unusual options include Brown Rice Laksa Noodles and Hand-drawn La Mian. Order their Fried Tofu with Sweet Chilli Thai Sauce. Sweet chilli and a silky soft inside made it incredibly addicting. Get the Golden Mantou to dip in the Laksa broth. Totally satisfying!

What our food editor liked about this steamboat restaurant: Shi Li Fang is a cheap Hotpot Steamboat buffet eatery starting at just under $10

How could we overlook one of Singapore's cheapest – and dare I say, most value-for-money – hotpot options? Shi Li Fang is one of the most reasonable options if you're wanting to satiate your steamboat desire, with set meals starting at S$9.90 for both lunch and dinner.

There are eight types of soup to choose from, including beauty collagen (chicken) soup, tomato soup, and mala soup, which is a local favourite. They also feature a large selection of dipping sauces that you can mix and match to create your own. They also provide a 50 per cent discount on seafood and meat items which can be added to your set meal.

Common Questions & FAQs – Complete guide to Steamboat in Singapore.

Ingredients, soups and sauces: everything you need to know to learn how to eat hot pot.

                                    steamboat 2022 02

What is a steamboat or hotpot?

Think of it as Asian fondue, except everyone cooks their own dish in a communal pot of simmering soup. While your clothing may smell and your stomach may feel like a furnace after dinner, you will have a great time with pals (hot pot is not exactly a one-person event). Preparing for a hot pot dinner at home or going out to dine requires knowledge of the tools and ingredients.

Where do steamboats and hotpot come from?

There are as many hot pot variations as there are Chinese households, however, there are different regional styles. The Mongolian Empire brought the simple stew with horse and mutton to East Asia thousands of years ago. (According to an urban legend, Mongolian warriors ate it in their helmets.) Its popularity grew as its cultural impact spread over China, Asia, Korea, Japan and Vietnam.

What is included in a steamboat and hotpot?

Hot Pot is made up of three parts: broth, dipping foods, and sauces.

How do you eat Hotpot and Steamboat like a local?

Keep in mind a few things as you and your pals dig in. First, cook your components slowly to match your eating rhythm. Remember that the food will be hot when you pull it out, so take your time and let the soup re-boil between batches. Use the portable baskets or long cooking chopsticks to retrieve your food so you don't eat and cook with the same equipment. Cooking times vary by dish. For example, mushrooms take 5-8 minutes to cook, but thin meat slices require longer than 10 seconds to cook. Let difficult greens soften in the saucepan as you dip and eat smaller, faster items. If you aren't sure about your cooking talents, invite a knowledgeable friend! Your waitress may occasionally replenish your pot with soup from a pitcher. Don't panic! They're just rebalancing the flavours and preventing you from ingesting pure spicy oil.

What rules should I remember when eating hotpot?

Respect the commons when eating hot pot. Share the meatballs, don't waste the shrimp paste, don't double-dip, and pour beer shots for the whole table. To be truly Asian, a violent dispute over who pays the bill is required.

                                    Are hotpot and steamboat expensive?

Because hot pot is a social activity, it is cheap. Some businesses give a free, refillable base soup and just charge for add-ons or spice upgrades, which is reasonable: The food costs around $18 per person if you want to eat a lot. A $10-$15 broth is a reasonable price for a restaurant that charges for soup. Of course, upscale hot pot joints will charge a premium for premium quality ingredients, so expect to pay $40-$50 a person.
